目标学生:G5~G9,课程周二周四,一周两次,一共16次课
The goal of the course is to develop mastery in reading the most difficult English-language literature and in writing about it with eloquence and clarity. These two courses will allow students to study the English language closely, on a pathway to a mastery of reading and writing. Students will read a variety of English-language texts - fiction, nonfiction, and poetry - and do a close-reading analysis of those texts. They will examine plot, theme, character, tone, word usage, logical construction, inference, and audience consideration. After focused class discussion, students will write about their readings, commencing with paragraph-long responses, in which students craft topic sentences, learn to employ direct evidence in the form of quotations, and develop confidence as well as competence in their own logic. At the end of the second level, students will write a full, five-paragraph essay like those expected of students in US high schools, and they will be asked to think on an AP level.
