This section investigates your perceptions of the use of "translanguaging" as a linguistic phenomenon in WeChat.
3. Have you heard of or are familiar with the linguistic phenomenon of "translanguaging"?

Although you may not have heard of the term "translanguaging," you may have employed translanguaging strategies while using WeChat. Generally, translanguaging strategies can be categorized into three major types:multimodal, multi-semiotic, and multilingual resources, each encompassing various sub-strategies.

In this section of the questionnaire, examples of the three translanguaging strategies (multimodal, multi-semiotic, and multilingual) used in WeChat will be displayed as images. Please evaluate the use of each strategy based on your personal judgment.
Specifically, multimodal strategies included the use of photos, videos, emojis and image macros, which is a particular type of meme comprised of an image and a creative caption. Multi-semiotic strategies involved hashtags and repeated punctuation marks, while multilingual strategies used English, Arabic numeral(s), English plus Arabic numeral(s), Languages other than English (LOTE), or Pinyin and Pinyin initialisms.
