Now there are a few subway lines in Zhengzhou. It’s very easy for people to go out. There are some signs on the subway. Please look at them.
A long time ago, when people wanted to go to a far place, they had only two choices: walk or ride animals like horses. But this was very slow—traveling 50 kilometers might take 2 or 3 days!
Then, about 300 years ago, people invented the steam engine (蒸汽机). First, it was used to power trains. The first trains were slow. Later, steam engines were put into boats, too. About 150 years ago, the first cars appeared. At first, cars were expensive and only rich people could buy them. They ran on gasoline (汽油) and were faster than horses. But they made dirty smoke, which was bad for the air.
Today, we have many better ways to travel. High-speed trains can go 300 kilometers per hour—so a 500-kilometer trip takes just 1.5 hours! We also have electric cars now. They don’t make dirty smoke, and they’re quiet. For short trips, many people use shared bikes: you can use a phone to rent one, ride it for 10 minutes, and pay only 1 yuan.
What about the future? Some scientists say we might have flying cars in 30 years. These cars will fly above roads, so there won’t be traffic jams. They’ll be fast and help us save time!
